Reproduced below are the covers of the 3 'Super Thriller' annuals. I think that it's supposed to be Ace on each cover (it's unmistakably our hero on the 1959 edition!) even though costume details differ from those depicted in most of the comics.

For those not aware of the British tradition, for many years it's been customary to publish a hardback edition of a popular comic called an 'annual'. The annual was/is a popular inclusion in many a youngster's 'Christmas Stocking'. In the 1940s and 1950s, such annuals would appear in book shops in November, dated for the following year. As with many Christmas related items, nowadays annuals often are to be found on sale in August or September.
